Obama Lawsuit to Keep Records from Public View

Obama’s legal team has filed a motion to keep his records hidden from public view, including his birth certificate, his college records, and his passport documents. They have further suggested that the lawyer representing presidential candidate Alan Keyes and others be subject to “monetary sanctions” for pursuing the matter.

Keyes’ lawsuit is one of many making their way through the court system on its way to the U.S. Supreme Court that claims that Obama is not eligible to be president because he has failed to prove he is a “natural born” citizen as required by the Constitution of the United States, Article 2, Section 1.

So far the Court has not granted a hearing on the merits of any of these cases, but has refused to hear them presumably because the petitioner has “lacked standing” to sue. However, Keyes’ case may be the one that is heard eventually because Keyes was a candidate for president in the last election and can legally claim that he has standing.

In this latest legal wrangling, Keyes’ lawyer subpoenaed Obama’s records from Occidental College. It is expected that these records will show that Obama attended the college as a foreign student since it is known that his Indonesian stepfather moved the family to Indonesia when Obama was a boy and changed his citizenship to Indonesian.

All of these matters could easily be cleared up by Obama by allowing the public to see his original birth certificate, something ordinary Americans must show for any number of things. However, since the issue came up last year, Obama’s response was to refuse and to hire law firms to keep his records secret. It seems reasonable to ask: Why? Why can’t we see your birth certificate? It is a reasonable request. Why hide it?
